Fixed-Term Stroke Consultant/Stroke Physician (6 month contract)
Applications are invited for a fixed term (10PA) Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in stroke and stroke rehabilitation or a Stroke Physician to join an established, highly committed, multi-disciplinary team. The essential requirement is that the appointee be expert in and committed to the care and management of stroke patients in all phases of their care, be committed to helping building a stroke centre of excellence both in patient care and research. Excellent opportunities exist to build a research base collaborating with the other stroke consultants and also with the neuroradiology team and the neurosurgery team.
The proposed attached Job Plan can be altered to suit appointed candidate depending on their parent specialty.
The successful applicant would join the current team of 3 neurology consultants, 2 acute medical consultants and a stroke physician who cover the stroke activity at the Trust. The Neurology Department provides all stroke services within NBT, currently with a team of 6 consultant stroke specialists leading the Trust’s Comprehensive Stroke Centre including both acute and rehabilitation services. We provide acute thrombolysis and TIA clinics 365 days per year and thrombectomy service for the region Monday to Friday. We have an excellent neurovascular interventional radiology service. We also have 3 full time stroke specialist nurses and dedicated junior medical staff and specialist trainees. The post is advertised due to one of the existing Consultants moving to another country.
North Bristol NHS Trust is the largest Trust in the South West and one of the largest in the UK.
Applicants are required to have CST in Stroke or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date or have equivalent extensive experience in Stroke. Full Registration with the GMC is essential.
The post is based in Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for on-call purposes.
Bristol is a thriving and culturally rich city with excellent transport links. The Sunday Times named Bristol the UK’s best place to live in 2017, with great places to eat and drink, “all the culture you could wish for” and access to seaside and scenery. Bristol was the first Cycling City in Britain and there are excellent cycling routes and facilities. Southmead Hospital is based in the North of the city, only 15 minutes from the city centre and has a great array of shops, theatres and places to eat, drink and socialise. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidate will be employed under the Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
