North Bristol NHS Trust

Southmead Hospital

Clinical Fellow (CT1 / 2 Level) in Plastic Surgery

We wish to appoint Clinical Fellows CT 1/2 Level in Plastic Surgery.  The posts are to commence 01st August 2018 for 6 months initially, with the possibility of a further 6 month extension being offered, subject to departmental approval.

The post is suitable to any qualified candidate seeking experience of UK hospital systems full filling the essential criteria, but especially useful to those seeking plastic surgery experience as an adjunct to training in other specialities such as ENT or orthopaedics, or those seeking a career in plastic surgery itself.

We are a busy department covering all sub-specialities of plastic and reconstructive surgery, both emergency and elective. In trauma, we offer a replantation service, hand trauma service, lower limb reconstructive service and burns service. In elective work we cover skin cancer, sarcoma, head and neck, breast reconstruction and hand surgery.

We have a dedicated adult plastic surgery and burns ward, and dedicated 7-day week plastics trauma specialist nurse coordinators to assist in the roles of the post. Candidates will be exposed to supervised-only outpatient clinics and operating lists. The on-call system is dedicated to plastic surgery with NO cross speciality cover expected.  All aspects of this post are on the same hospital site.

Candidates will be allocated an educational supervisor and be encouraged to participate in audit and research. Although lacking postgraduate deanery approval, the post is educationally sound. Those undertaking MCRS examinations will be supported through available educational programmes and attendance of courses. Those seeking specific experience in plastic surgery sub-specialities to suit their training needs will be supported by attendance of relevant outpatient clinics and operating lists.

Further details available from Mr Tom Chapman, Consultant Plastic Surgeon Tel: 0117 414 7628.

The annual salary is in accordance with the Core Trainee Scale as follows (April 2017 rates); £30,605 - £40,491.

A standard working week is 40 hours and this post also attracts a supplement of an additional 40% of the basic salary for working on the out of hour’s rota up to a weekly average of 48 hours.

Closing Date – 19.07.2018

If you are shortlisted we will contact you by email with details of your interview of which you will need to confirm your attendance. Therefore it is important that you check your online account regularly.
