FIXED TERM CONSULTANT IN PALLIATIVE MEDICINE

(PART TIME 7PA)

10 MONTHS FIXED TERM WITH A VIEW TO EXTEND FURTHER (MATERNITY LEAVE) CONSULTANT IN PALLIATIVE MEDICINE 

Depending on suitability of candidates, posts will be configured to a maximum of 7 sessions  (with advice line out of hours on call with additional supplement) - part time working applications welcomed.

North Bristol NHS Trust is the largest Trust in the South West region and one of the largest trusts in the country. The Trust recently moved the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building, regarded as one of the best hospital facilities in Europe, on the Southmead Hospital site. The Trust provides Medical, Surgical, Neonatal and Maternity Care for its local population of approximately a million people in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The Trust also provides regional services in Neurosciences, Orthopaedics, Pathology, Plastic Surgery and Burns, Renal and Transplant Medicine, Vascular surgery and Urology and is the Major Trauma Centre for the West Country.  Additional investment has been secured to expand our current consultant team of 2.6 WTE Consultants who are supported by 6 WTE Clinical Nurse Specialists and supporting AHPs. We work in an advisory role across all specialists and divisions in the Trust and support a high percentage of patients with non-malignant disease.  We are a busy, pro-active team and see more than 1,700 new patients a year. This appointment is to cover maternity leave so that we can continue to provide our increasing activity and new service model including provision of a 24 hour telephone advice service (full consultant team will be 4 WTE including this post).

Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine, have CCT in Palliative Medicine or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full Registration with the GMC is essential.

The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for on-call purposes. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
