An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner on the Neurosurgery Unit at Southmead Hospital. As a key part of the Neurosciences and Musculoskeletal Division, the 64-bed unit provides outstanding patient care for Neurosurgery, Neurology and spinal patients. It incorporates 16 High Observation beds with onsite Neurophysiologists.


There is a large established nursing team delivering exceptional standards of care who consistently receive positive feedback in the friends and family survey. The nursing team work within a strong multidisciplinary team who together set individualised patient goals and provide excellent standards of care.


We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated nurse with relevant experience who wishes to join this fast pace, constantly changing environment. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • work as part of the NNP team to provide education and support to patients, relatives/carers, medical and nursing staff.
  • enhance the continuity of patient care in the preoperative period and through to admission for surgery and discharge.
  • be the main point of contact for all neurosurgical preoperative assessment clinic (NPAC) patients.
  • be responsible for the day to day management of NPAC, SDA and the competence of staff working within it to ensure continued high standards of care.
  • line manage junior staff involved in the elective patient pathway

The NNP post, under supervision from the senior NNP will enhance the care provided to patients going through NPAC to ensure their safe admission for anaesthetic and surgery.
