This is an exciting opportunity for a midwife with specialist safeguarding experience to lead the safeguarding agenda in the role of Named Midwife as part of the corporate safeguarding team. The candidate will be a highly motivated midwife with a vision to support and develop trust staff working with women with complex social needs throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. We are looking for an exceptional individual with passion and commitment to join our team in ensuring that safeguarding provision across NBT services continues to develop according to need, is evidence based, child/family focused and in accordance with statutory safeguarding agendas.

The post holder will work alongside the Named Nurse and Named Doctor and in partnership with the Director of Midwifery and the senior leadership of the Women and Children's division to drive forward the safeguarding agenda. Key responsibilities of the role will include providing support, guidance and expert advice to the maternity, NICU and Gynaecology services; leading in developing and delivering training and safeguarding supervision; supporting divisional senior staff with monitoring practice and progression of improvement plans. The post holder will lead on multidisciplinary and multi-agency safeguarding work streams supporting the Named Nurse and Head of Safeguarding with work across the local Safeguarding Partnerships.

There is an expectation the post holder will support with commissioned local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (previously known as Serious Case Reviews) and internal Trust significant incident reviews which involve the Women and Children's division, including  undertaking safeguarding audits/ evaluations.

The Named Midwife will work closely with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and the Women and Children's Divisional Director of Midwifery and Nursing to ensure appropriate quality assurance mechanisms of safeguarding systems and practice are in place across the division and be integral in developing effective communication strategies within the Trust and with other agencies and professionals involved in this area of work.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate robust expert knowledge and experience in the field of Safeguarding in maternity services, possess effective communication skills, experience in teaching and the confidence to provide positive challenge and support to effect change.

This is a  full time role however a job share would be considered.
