This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to develop their safeguarding skills and knowledge, within the safeguarding children arena. The candidate will be a highly motivated midwife with a vision to support midwives working with women with complex social needs throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. We are looking for an exceptional individual with passion and commitment to support in ensuring that safeguarding provision across NBT maternity service continues to develop according to need, is evidence based, child/family focused manner and in accordance with statutory safeguarding agendas.
The post holder will support the Named Nurse and the Named Midwife to drive forward the safeguarding children agenda. Key responsibilities of the role will include providing, support, guidance and advice to the midwifery service; supporting in developing and delivering training and safeguarding supervision; supporting with monitoring practice and progression of improvement plans. The post holder will contribute to multidisciplinary and multi-agency safeguarding children activities supporting the Named Nurses and Named Midwife with work across the local Safeguarding Children Partnerships.
There is an expectation the post holder will support with commissioned local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (previously known as Serious Case Reviews) and internal Trust significant incident reviews which involve the maternity service, including as required undertaking safeguarding audits/ evaluations.
The Specialist Safeguarding Midwife will work closely with the Named Nurses for Safeguarding Children and the Named Midwife to ensure appropriate quality assurance mechanisms of safeguarding practice are in place across maternity services and be integral in developing effective communication strategies within the Trust and with other agencies and professionals involved in this area of work.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate robust knowledge and experience in the field of Safeguarding in maternity services, possess effective communication skills, experience in teaching and the confidence to provide positive challenge and support to effect change.
This is a full time role however a job share would be considered.
Closing date for this role is the 11th August 2020 with interviews currently booked to take place on 3th September 2020.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
