Consultant Histopathologist with specialist interest in Uropathology
Department of Cellular Pathology
(ONEPOST, FULL TIME, 10 PAs)
Join us at North Bristol NHS Trust where you’ll be part of a subspecialised team, working in a brand new purpose-built Pathology centre built on the Southmead Hospital site. The department continues to provide an Essential Services Laboratory at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Applications are invited to fill the post of whole-time Consultant Histopathologist posts. Applicants should have an established or developing interest in uropathology. For candidates wishing to also report in other specialties in addition to GI, an interest in breast, cardiovascular, colposcopic or GI pathology would be desirable.
This replacement post offers an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic Cellular Pathology Service and to develop specialist diagnostic and research interests with the enthusiastic support of the corresponding clinical teams.
The existing Cellular Pathology service was formed in May 2016 when the North Bristol service and the UHBristol service came together to provide a single service for Bristol. In April 2019, the work that had been delivered from Weston General Hospital also moved to this department. We provide cervical screening services to the South West region.
We, Severn Pathology, provide several services under one roof. Importantly, the Genomics laboratory Hub is co-located with the other pathology disciplines and is the lead provider of laboratory services for the South West of England.
We are based in the North of this buzzing and culturally rich city – if you move here it won’t take you long to discover everything that it has to offer. Bristol City Centre is just 15 minutes away, and has a great array of shops, theatres and restaurants and has an array of annual festivals and events including the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and the Bristol Harbour Festival. For those who cycle, Bristol boasts excellent cycling facilities and was chosen as England’s first cycling city in 2008 and was voted the European green capital in 2015. In 2017 Bristol was named ‘best place to live in Britain’ by the Times “the city is a worthy winner thanks to its ideal combination of extraordinary culture, impressive schools, buzzing culinary scene, exciting redevelopment and community spirit.”.
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must also have Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists.
The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
If you are shortlisted we will contact you by email with details of your interview of which you will need to confirm your attendance. Therefore it is important that you check your online account regularly.
