The Cellular Pathology Department at Southmead Hospital is well equipped, accredited by UKAS to ISO15189(2012) and approved by IBMS for training. It provides a comprehensive service (Histopathology, Cytopathology and Immunohistochemistry) to the two acute Trusts in Bristol, local GPs and other centres in the south west. The work is varied, covering all specialisms with the exception of Neuropathology.
The Histopathology section is looking to appoint to a Trainee Band 5 Biomedical Scientist post and is seeking applications from enthusiastic individuals with qualifications suitable for registration as Biomedical Scientists with the HCPC.
All applicants will need to be enthusiastic and well motivated and able to demonstrate a good understanding of diagnostic cellular pathology. Candidates will need to demonstrate a commitment to completing the training, excellent organisational skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
This is a full time post (37.5 hours per week). The laboratory currently operates 7.00 am to 6.00 pm and applicants will need to be flexible meet the needs of the service; this includes regular Saturdays (0900-1700) and working until 1800 (weekdays) on a rota basis.
