NORTH BRISTOL NHS TRUST
(FULL TIME or PART TIME)
Ref – 339 - MPAMM486
North Bristol NHS Trust is a progressive and ambitious teaching and research organisation, and a specialist regional centre for major trauma, neurosciences, plastics and burns, orthopaedics and renal services. With a turnover of £550m and 8,000 staff, our clinical teams have built a strong reputation for exceptional healthcare, personally delivered. We are working together to create the environment for exceptional healthcare – our acute services moved into the brand new, £430 million state of the art Brunel Building in May 2014. This 800 bed hospital at the Southmead site offers some patients single rooms with en-suite facilities, greatly improving privacy and dignity and helping to control the spread of infections. At the heart of what we do is a caring and compassionate workforce.
We are delighted to invite applications for a substantive Consultant in Emergency Medicine.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of 16 Consultants, providing cutting edge emergency care to the population of North Bristol. The Emergency Department is the adult major trauma centre for the Severn Trauma Network. The existing Consultants provide a high level of shop floor cover, including late shifts and an overnight resident trauma team leader service. This further expansion of Consultant numbers will allow increased Consultant shop floor presence during hours of greatest need, further matching senior staffing to patient demand.
The excellent team of Consultants all have a passion for delivering high quality emergency care. The skills of many of the existing consultants extend beyond emergency medicine. Examples of additional skills include; prehospital emergency medicine, expedition medicine, national expertise on the management of chest pain and stroke. Southmead ED is a leading research centre, and the department recruits to many NIHR portfolio studies and has recently gained significant grant funding to lead a multicentre randomised controlled trial.
Successful applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to work in this busy emergency department and trauma centre, the largest in the South West. In addition, we are seeking to enhance the skill mix of our current Consultant workforce.
Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine, (FRCEM or equivalent) have CCT in Emergency Medicine, or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for on-call purposes. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
