CONSULTANT IN DIABETES & ENDOCRINOLOGY

Applicants are invited for this exciting substantive appointment in Diabetes & Endocrinology at North Bristol NHS Trust. NBT is one of the biggest in the country and is the largest in the South and West Region. It serves a population of approximately 500,000. The Trust has University Teaching status and is associated with both the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. All clinical services previously located at Frenchay and Southmead were integrated into the new state of the art Brunel building in May 2014.
This post is a new post, to enhance the growing endocrinology and specialist diabetes service within the Trust. The endocrine workload is expanding rapidly in light of increased demand, and the post-holder will play a key role in developing and extending this service. All regional pituitary and adrenal surgery is now undertaken at Southmead Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic applicant with drive to help support the pre-, peri-, and post-operative care of these patients.
The department has remodelled its specialist diabetes services in response to changes across primary and secondary care interface. The post-holder will share responsibility for multi- professional foot and complex diabetes clinics, including pump, young adult and pregnancy. General endocrine, joint adrenal and pituitary clinics form part of the role. In addition, he/she will work closely with the existing multi- disciplinary team to support a Tier 3 Weight Management Service. The post-holder will also be involved in general medicine inpatient care to our inpatient bed base, and participate in the weekend acute medicine on-call rota. We also expect the post holder to contribute to the clinical research programme in diabetes and endocrinology. There will be an opportunity for a leadership role within aspects of our service depending on individual interest and experience.
Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register for Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus, have CCT in Endocrinology and Diabetes and General (Internal) Medicine or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for on-call purposes. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
