Applications are invited from enthusiastic, adaptable individuals who would enjoy working as part of a friendly team providing the Cellular Pathology service in this busy department. You will be involved in the day-to-day support work of the Histopathology laboratory, including data-entry, assisting in the reception and preparation of clinical specimens for biological testing and with the maintenance of equipment and departmental filing systems.

For this varied and interesting new Medical Laboratory Assistant post, you will need to be numerate and literate (with a minimum 4 GCSEs including English, Maths and a Science), be able to work as part of a team, be able to demonstrate adaptability and initiative and have good communication and organisational skills. This is not a training position and a degree level of education is not required for this post. Applicants are required to have good keyboard skills and a working knowledge of the pathology IT systems, although full training will be provided. Ideally we are looking for someone with data-entry skills and recent laboratory experience.

This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week, five days per week, Mon - Fri); the hours may vary on a rotational basis (e.g. weekly or fortnightly), but will be between 7am and 6pm (exact hours subject to confirmation, e.g. 7am-3pm or 10am to 6pm). Participation in a Saturday rota may be required.

Please note this is primarily a data input role with some handling of pathology specimens required. This is not a training post and does not support completion of the HCPC Portfolio.

Band 2 payscale: £15,404 - £18,157 pa (£7.89 - £9.31 per hour) for those meeting the full requirements of the post as detailed in the person specification excluding unsocial hours or overtime payments.

Where this is not the case and training is required for the post the salary will start at £13,617 pa (£6.98 per hour) excluding unsocial hours or overtime payments.
