We are seeking a motivated individual to join our enthusiastic and friendly team in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Southmead Hospital Bristol. You will be working for the largest NHS Trust in the SW Region that provides medical, surgical and maternity care for a population of approximately half a million people in North Bristol and the surrounding community. In 2014 the Trust relocated the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building, one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe offering exemplary care in a beautiful and purpose built environment.

There has been significant investment in redeveloping laboratory services with a new state of the art Pathology Sciences Laboratory accommodating an integrated multidisciplinary laboratory service. The Biochemistry Department offers a broad range of routine and specialist services including an integrated Blood Sciences Automated Laboratory, Biochemical Genetics and New-born Screening, Clinical and Forensic Toxicology, Antenatal Screening, Cholinesterase Investigation Unit and Point of Care testing Service.

The post holder will be a key member of the Blood Sciences team; you will primarily provide scientific and clinical support to the New-born Screening and Biochemical Genetics Laboratory The department provides the New-born blood spot screening programme for the South West of England. There is a comprehensive biochemical genetics service with a full range of equipment and assays. The department works closely with the clinical paediatric and adult inherited metabolic disease services and the metabolic laboratory at University Hospitals Bristol to deliver a comprehensive service to the South West region.

You will be a HCPC state registered Clinical Scientist with a specialist interest in New-born screening and inherited metabolic disease and appropriate experience to contribute to the general clinical biochemistry Duty Biochemist rota. This may include out of hours advice under the supervision of a consultant.
