Rotational Pharmacy Technician - Band 4 and 5

Band 4 - £21,892 - £24,157 per annum

Band 5 - £24,907 - £30,615 per annum

We provide exceptional healthcare to a wide variety of patients with a major trauma centre and specialties including neurosciences, orthopedics, renal medicine and transplantation, infectious diseases/HIV, burns and plastics plus general medicine and surgery. The Pharmacy department is clinically focused, forward thinking and an evolving department. Now is an exciting time to join us and support the development of fully integrated ward based team working including clinical prioritisation for technicians.

Always looking towards innovation we have recently taken the lead in the successful setup of the Ashton Gate and Southmead Hospital Mass Vaccination Programmes, implemented a new Pharmacy system and look to introduce cross sector training for technicians with our primary care colleagues.

We have now secured funding to develop our services further and are looking to recruit band 4 and 5 technicians, depending on level of qualification and experience. Whether you are an experienced accuracy checking or medicines management technician, looking to expand your knowledge and develop as a leader, a newly qualified pre-registration pharmacy technician or due to qualify this year, it is the ideal time for you to join our team.

Technician development is at our core; we currently have 20+ bands 6 to 8 technicians in leadership roles, with areas of specialism including Renal medicine, Medicines Information, Homecare, Clinical Trials, Logistics, Procurement and Training

Our department recognises and promotes the value of technicians in both clinical and leadership roles. With this at the forefront we have developed an exciting 2 year program for successful Band 4 candidates to offer the opportunity to develop a breadth of experience, grow confidence and to gain nationally recognised qualifications in both the clinical and leadership arena. As a Band 4 you will rotate through various sections of the pharmacy department developing your knowledge and understanding as a Pharmacy Technician. With 2 years post qualification experience and the successful completion of the Pharmacy Workforce development South (PWDS) - Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician and either the completion of the South West Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation training programme Units 1 and 2; or the completion of the Pharmacy Leadership Program you will progress into a band 5 technician role, but the opportunities do not stop there.

If you are already Band 5 technician you will have the opportunity to further develop your skills through leadership, project work and clinical experience. This Band 5 role offers an exciting opportunity to develop much sought after skills and to work alongside a first class clinical team.  Development is ongoing and we are keen to support candidates to explore specialties and gain skills that will be used to enhance and expand our service. Our aim is for every technician to reach their full potential, feel valued and be part of one Pharmacy team.

We welcome the skills and diversity of both community, and hospital trained candidates and are keen to develop the links between primary and secondary care.

If you are reliable, enthusiastic, self-motivated and possess good organisational and communication skills, have completed, or  due to complete this summer, S/NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services plus an accredited underpinning knowledge or equivalent qualification, come and join us and be part of the innovative, exciting and forward thinking team here at Southmead Hospital Pharmacy.

Working hours will be within 08:00 and 19:00 7 days and includes bank holidays, however if working at Ashton Gate hours are between 07:30 – 20:00
