We are recruiting to the Trust Consultant Solicitor (Band 8B) role to provide part time maternity cover on a short term basis (17 weeks). The role is a job share for 3 days per week and the anticipated start date 9th April 2018.
This is a crucial post, which leads the healthcare legal team in providing essential legal support and advice as part of a dedicated in-house legal service in response to healthcare litigation, clinical negligence, personal injury and staff claims and Coroners Inquests.
The role requires the postholder to lead the team in undertaking factual investigations of clinical and non-clinical claims, drafting legal documentation taking account of relevant legislation and case law, reviewing evidence for and attending Coroner’s Court and initiating High Court applications on healthcare matters. It also makes a key contribution to the Trust’s wider improvement through supporting healthcare professionals in response to requests for advice and promoting effective learning from negligence cases, coroners inquests and other matters identified in fulfilling the role.
It also requires excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with a wide cross-section of clinical and non-clinical staff, including members of the Trust Executive team. These skills equally apply in leading the in house healthcare legal team as well as managing the relationship with the Trust’s external panel solicitor, DAC Beachcroft.
Applicants must be a fully qualified solicitor/ILEX with a minimum of 3 year’s post qualification experience, specialising in medical negligence and personal injury claims. They must also be a member of the appropriate professional body e.g. Law Society/ Bar Council/ Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX/FILEX) and maintain a current practising certificate/ professional body registration in line with the bodies requirements.
The role reports to the Trust’s Associate Director of Quality Governance, as part of the Clinical Governance directorate.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
