Patient Catering Chef - Band 3
We are looking for a fully qualified chef to be part of our in-house catering team, you will be required to cook freshly prepared food using fresh local ingredients in a cost effective way. You will be part of a team of chefs.
Working pattern: Rotational - 7:00-15:00 or 10:00-18:00
with 6 other staff
Salary: £20,330 - £21,777 per annum
Main duties of the job
Duties will include:
Preparing and cooking food for staff
Planning and producing Hospitality menus
Supervising within the team on a shift by shift basis
The post holder will be providing instruction to less senior grades of staff as and when require on a daily basis.
The post holder will be deputising for senior/head chef as and when designated in the absence of the senior/head chef on a day to day basis.
The post holder will deal with telephone enquiries including requests for meals.
The post holder will be responsible for responding to customer’s comments for the restaurant and satellite units
The post holder will be responsible for working as part of a team to provide efficient and effective services in a caring and professional manner.
The post holder will be responsible for completing one’s own weekly timesheets and checking all others within the team.
The post holder will be responsible for Promoting a professional attitude in all aspects of communication with customers e.g. all users of restaurant and satellite units service etc.
The post holder is responsible for undertaking any training necessary to help promote the professional image of Catering Department
The post holder must ensure strict adherence and compliance with Department of Health guidelines in terms of time and temperature control.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job Title: Chef
Grade: Band 3
Department: Patient Catering
Location/Base: Southmead Hospital
Preparation, cooking, portioning and service of all types of meals/food, including special culinary items and diets. To deliver a high quality and efficient service for patients, visitors and staff.
Clearing and cleaning of work area to maintain a clean and safe environment supervision of Catering Assistants or mentoring of trainees in the absence of the Head Chef or Food Production Manager. Providing advice to catering staff on all aspects of food and menu preparation. There are no budgetary responsibilities but this post will assist with menu planning. Deals with patient /customer complaints.
Must display a professional attitude at all times including wearing correct uniform, footwear and minimum jewellery, in line with individual departmental policies and requirements. You will act in a courteous manner to all patients, staff, visitors and work colleagues.
Must be fully conversant with and ensure compliance with the Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point system in operation.
The post holder must ensure a high standards of personal hygiene in accordance with NBT policy of Food Safety and Pest Control.

- Must have qualification of 706/1/2
- Must have Basic Food Hygine Cirtificate
- Must have evidence of large scale cooking
- Experience in a supervisory role
