Clinical Vascular Scientist Band 7 – Full Time Permanent (37.5 hours)
North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) is the hub for the Major Arterial Centre for the Bristol, Bath and Weston Vascular Network. Vascular Testing is central to the Vascular Network based in the modern Brunel Building at the centre of the recently redeveloped Southmead Hospital Bristol site.
We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Vascular Scientist to include newly qualified STP graduates to join a progressive enthusiastic team and to experience working in what is currently one of Europe’s leading hospitals. The team is comprised of six Clinical Vascular Scientists, a year 2 STP trainee (with application pending for a year one trainee to start September 2018), two Support Workers and an administrator.
We will be happy to consider part-time/job share and can offer flexible hours between 0800-1800. A Band 6 position will be considered if you are able to demonstrate that you are nearing completion of your training or a final year STP trainee.
The services we provide are integral to clinical decision-making in a number of key areas including vascular surgery, renal medicine, and stroke medicine. We provide multiple cross site one-stop clinics and daily emergency hot clinics for the vascular surgeons; as well as a daily TIA clinic and a weekly one-stop renal fistula clinic. We support specialist vascular clinics to include: endofibrosis and thoracic outlet syndrome, and perform a range of duplex ultrasound scans:
- Carotid/Vertebral artery
- Upper and lower limb arterial
- ABPI, toe pressures and perfusion studies
- Upper and lower limb venous
- Lower limb venous incompetence
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Graft surveillance
- Renal Access and fistula assessment
We are an increasingly busy department with activity averaging over 9,000 scans per year. The job provides variation with staff required to perform scans in the Vascular Testing outpatient department, the Emergency Department, pre-op medi rooms, on the inpatient wards and peripheral outpatient clinics in surrounding hospitals when required. All Vascular Scientists have protected non-clinical time to carry out other tasks of their choice to include audits and research, leadership development and other continued professional development responsibilities.
Interview date is scheduled for Wednesday 7 February 2018.
